About hReds

Helsinki based ice hockey club IFK Helsinki started an eSports project in November 2016 by founding a team that competes in Overwatch, a Blizzard Entertainment game published in Spring of 2016.

Our goal is to become one of the leading and most popular brands in eSports and to provide our players a caring environment to enable them to achieve their goals in eSports.

Helsinki REDS’ first team was assembled by our team manager Christer Kasurinen and team captain Roope “Ruape” Kurkela.

During the fall 2016 they gathered a tight group of players committed to work hard and grow together as a team that is competitive at high level matches and tournaments.

Helsinki REDS is operated by a limited company based in Finland and owned by Oy HIFK-Hockey Ab, which also operates the professional ice hockey club IFK Helsinki.

One of the biggest and most traditional sports brands in Finland, IFK Helsinki is the first in the country to venture into eSports. The Club was founded in 1897 and has played top tier ice hockey in Finland for almost 60 years. IFK Helsinki has won seven national championships, the latest one coming in 2011 and the club is one of the most popular in Finland.

In addition to national league IFK Helsinki also competes in the international club tournament Champions Hockey League.

Many present star players of Finnish ice hockey represent IFK Helsinki this season, Juhamatti Aaltonen and Roope Hintz being the brightest of stars.

Many famous NHL players have come through the IFK Helsinki system into professional ice hockey, Esa Tikkanen, Niklas Backstrom, Mikael Granlund and Olli Jokinen, just to name a few.
